Dad stunned after son makes incredible discovery in pockets of £6 charity shop jacket

A father and son were left blown away after they scooped the charity clothes shop bargain of a lifetime - before discovering an even sweeter surprise hidden in its pockets.

The lucky pair, who had spent months hunting for a leather jacket, managed to walk away from a visit to a Goodwill in Flagstaff, Arizona, in the US with the genuine article for just $7.99 (£5.50). Their fortunate finding was documented in a Reddit post back in 2022, but a surprising twist in the already interesting story has seen the account make the rounds once more in recent days.

After celebrating their long-awaited find, the two travelled home, with the dad revealing in the now viral social media post that he earned praise from his young son for "changing his life". But another treat was hiding in the jacket's pockets.

Posting on the r/ThriftStoreHauls subreddit, the dad said his son dug in the pockets as soon as he got home, and found something "just as good" as cash.

Recounting the moment, he said: "I hear 'PAPA! PAPA! I found credit cards in my jacket!' I was thinking 'WTF' and he comes running down and shows me four gift cards with $10 (£7.38) values on them and I'll be dammed they are all loaded!

"$40 (£29.31) in Subway gift cards!" While the son was "totally excited" by the find, the dad said he was doubly so, with the youngster having effectively paid for dinner.

He said: "So he's totally excited and offers to buy everyone dinner and now I'm absolutely thrilled that means Papa haven't got to cook tonight."

The incredible find and touching story touched many Redittors, with dozens commenting their own delight underneath the post. One Reddit user said the jacket was "very cool", while another commented in response: "Papa is way cooler though."

Another user responded with their own similar experience while thrifting, saying: "I once thrifted a leather jacket for 7 dollars that had 13 dollars in the pocket, congrats, that is awesome."

Users were also floored by the son's offer to pay for dinner, calling the Subway find a "fun win win". One said: "I’m so happy for you and your son!! It’s great how he can feel that he’s treating you to dinner. What a fun win win!!"

Another commenter added: "Aww I love that he offered to buy everyone dinner. So wholesome!"
